A "mechanical" postcard has moving parts such as pop-up or fold-out elements, pull tabs and wheels that turn. I wanted to share these delightful cards, most of which are 100 years old, but then there would be no way for internet visitors to turn the wheels. So, I decided to simulate the motion by animating some of these enchanting cards from my collection.
Prior to animating them, I digitally restored all of these cards to varying degrees. See the example below. I also added the frames. When known, artist, publisher and date information is listed. All of the ones on this page have a Christmas theme. Have fun and look for more mechanicals on Valentine's Day. BBR |
